3 Reasons for a holiday in Crikvenica


The beaches of the Crikvenica riviera are known for their exceptional beauty , crystal clear seawater and an abundance of Mediterranean plants growing alongside well-tended footpaths. Long sandy and pebble beaches, numerous peaceful coves and romantically secluded beaches, there will be something for everyone. Thanks to the quality cleanliness of the sea, the beaches in Crikvenica (Balustrada), Dramalj (Omorika) and Selce ( Poli mora) have been awarded the Blue Flag, the well-established European certificate of excellence. Crni Molo beach is part of the Public beach which is known for a shallow bay suitable for children and for playing the famous game of „picigin“. There are many sport and recreational facilities, children’s playgrounds, a variety of bars and restaurants and a wide range of cultural and entertainment programmes.


Gastronomy in Crikvenica is based on fresh ingredients from this area. Hotel and restaurant menus offer dishes prepared in a traditional way; various fish dishes, home made soups and pastry. Some of the popular restaurants in Crikvenica are Galija within the eponymous hotel which offers a great variety of national and international dishes and a very rich wine list; Maestral restaurant, which is one of the first restaurants in Crikvenica, has delicious meals which have many times been awarded; Bego restaurant which is situated at the very entrance to the city, above the city centre, in peaceful surroundings has a large terrace and offers great dishes and very good wine. The Frankopan cake is an iconic Croatian dessert, particularly emblematic of the city of Crikvenica where it enjoys a cult status and serves as a reminder of a historical era when the Crikvenica-Vinodol region was ruled by the counts of the Frankopan family. This lavish dessert originated in the Baroque era, and the first written mention of the Frankopan cake appeared in a 1686 cookbook written by Dutchess Eleonora Maria Rosalia von Eggenberg. The recipe was kept a secret up until 1993 when it was reconstructed at the Institute for Ethnology and Folklore Research in Zagreb.


The Crikvenica Riviera is a kilometres long promenade along the tame and green line on which you can see protected coves, parks, villas and gardens, and inland, there are paths and mountain hiking trails. The Love Path is one of the most beautiful footpaths in the Crikvenica area. Located in the immediate vicinity of the town, it offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the peace of the forest, the exhilarating scents of its Mediterranean plants, and to learn more about the local historical and cultural heritage. There are moments in life which are priceless. When time becomes unimportant, the feelings of joy step onto the scene and a warmth induced by happiness flows through the body. Amongst the most beautiful are those in which man and nature become one. The Crikvenica-Vinodol region has a total of no less than 300 km of footpaths and hiking trails and 300 km of cycling trails. Some of them pass along the coastline, whilst others lead through lushly forested greenery or to the top of hills and vantage points, from where magnificent views extend. As our lungs fill with clean mountain or sea air, the magical images before us take our breath away
